Eva Brown sent in this question:
I was
born in Toccoa many years ago, and I have always wondered how Dick's
Hill happened to be named that. Does anyone know who Dick is??

Now that's a good question. I have most of the answer but will get a bit more from Pearl this weekend.
Believe it or not, Dick was an Indian chief! Chief Dick lived in that area and thus we have Dicks Hill Parkway, and Dick's creek. I believe there was a settlement with his name but I'll wait to hear more from Pearl and others and will post their comments.

I talked to Pearl today and she gave me more information.
The settlement "Dicks Town" or "Dix Town" was the Indian settlement that is now Browns Bottom. Chief Dix (Dick?) was the chief of the tribe there at Browns Bottom.
I believe I have seen the name spelled both ways.
